Find Your Wine
Admission comes with a souvenir wine glass and unlimited tastings, so whether you’re in search of red, white, or even rosé, your palate is sure to be pleased. Options include more than 20 wines from local wineries and vintages from across the globe.
Novices and aficionados alike are welcome. Part of the beauty of the event is being able to talk to wine experts who are extremely knowledgeable and happy to share details on the finer points of the wines.
Past events have also included a selection of beer in the Beer Garden for guests who might prefer a pint. Sample your way across tents and tables and, if you like what you try, purchase a bottle to take home.
Attendees who enjoy sounds with their sauvignon can sway along to live music. Local legends like Lewis McGehee, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist; and 504 Supreme, a high-energy jazz band taking cues from New Orleans; have both played the event.
Additionally, patrons in search of a snack or meal to go with their beverage will appreciate the abundance of food options for hungry oenophiles, including crab cakes, locally grown roasted peanuts, gourmet pizzas, and so much more.
Sipping in Support of Others
Since its beginning in 2009, the Chesapeake Wine Fest has donated over $1.5 million to various charitable organizations, including Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hampton Roads. So, come out and feel great about spending an afternoon sipping chardonnays and pinots knowing that 100% of ticket sales will go towards helping those in need.
The Fine Print
Although grills, personal tents, and outside alcohol are not permitted, guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to settle in for a picnic or just relax on the grass. If the weather’s not great, don’t worry; this event happens rain or shine.
No pets are allowed, except for service animals. It’s also best to leave the kids at home, since attendees must be at least 21 years of age to partake in the drinking. For those looking to stay the night nearby, the festival has partnered with Hyatt Place Chesapeake/Greenbrier just a five-minute drive away.
Tickets and reserved tables for this event are limited—and go quite quickly!—so make sure to order yours today. Finally, this event is entirely volunteer-run. Contact the organizers if you’d like to help out. Visit the Chesapeake Virginia Wine Festival website for more information.
