Sports Facilities in Chesapeake

Group sporting events held in Chesapeake include the annual Paddle for the Border Kayak Event, Virginia High School League Regional and State Wrestling Tournament, and AAU State Gymnastics. The sports facilities include more than 200 acres for soccer, baseball, football, and tennis fields, for tournaments or family vacations. The Chesapeake City Park is comprised of 60 acres, a sand volleyball court, basketball courts, regulation horseshoe courts, dog parks, a Skate Park, and miles of trails.
For the more adventurous crew, canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, bikes, and cabins can all be rented at the Northwest River Park. Visitors can go fishing, horseback riding, picnic, or hike on a five-mile trail system. Wildlife can be viewed along the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, through the wetlands and forest of the Oak Grove Lake Park, and the scenic overlook of the Elizabeth River at the Bells Mill Park.
For those who prefer the indoors, Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex Ice is a 90,000 square foot dual rink sports complex with skate rentals, two NHL full-sized sharing rinks. Bowlers can venture to the Western Branch Lanes or Chesapeake Lanes for bowling and pool and golf lovers can play a few games at Chesapeake Golf Club or with a PGA professional at the Battlefield Golf Club at Centerville.
Meeting and conference space is also available at the Chesapeake Conference Center with nine meeting and banquet rooms, hotel rooms within walking distance, audio and visual lighting systems, and creative menu services.
Other entertainment can be found at one of three shopping centers, amusement parks, water parks, or historical attractions. Plan to tour the Chesapeake Arboretum, Planetarium, Children's Museum of Virginia, Virginia Air & Space Center, or Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center while visiting the area.
