Fall Family Adventure

Plenty of Fall Fun to be Had

Whether you’re looking for hayrides, pumpkin patches, or just some fall foliage, autumn in Chesapeake, VA is sure to delight family members of all ages.

DAY ONE

After your drive into town, stretch your legs at Fun Forest in Chesapeake City Park. This impressive three-acre playground includes slides, swings, and even a shark to climb. Before you leave, take a walk around the 3/4 mile loop and feel the brisk autumn wind as you listen to the fall leaves crunching beneath your feet.

For dinner, make your way to Zino’s, where the whole family can dig into a basket of wings, fried pickles, or pizza fries. Still hungry? The kid’s menu features corn dogs, stuffed shells, and even quesadillas.

Now that everyone’s eaten, check into your room at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Greenbrier. The whole family can unwind in this modern hotel that gives guests plenty of space to sleep, gather, and, of course, play. Plus, since all rooms are complete with kitchenettes, you can keep everything from baby food to microwave meals on-hand in case you need a late-night bite or between-meal snack.

DAY TWO

Once you’ve finished breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a morning on the farm. Hickory Ridge Farm is ready to delight your family with 18 acres of family-friendly fall activities. There’s no admission fee, but you may want to have your wallet ready to pay for pumpkins, hayrides, and tasty treats like apple cider donuts and kettle corn. No fall farm would be complete without a corn maze, and Hickory Ridge is no exception! Wind your way through the stalks before trying a cup of apple, peach, or muscadine cider to quench your thirst.

After a morning outside, head indoors to FunVille Playground & Cafe, where kids can spend hours enjoying two playgrounds, a ropes course, an arcade, and even bumper cars. Take a break from bouncing and bumping to grab a bite. The FunVille Cafe is ideal for picky eaters, with offerings like pizza, French fries, and plenty of dessert options. Don’t worry, parents can grab food for more adventurous palates like the Swiss Mushroom Burger, Fried Green Beans, and even several salad options.

Can you make your way through Maniac House or the Trail of Fears? Test your bravery at A Haunting at Greenbrier Farms’ six consecutive Haunt Attractions! Not a fan of scares? Estate grounds are decorated for fall and open with lots of free family fun.

For authentic and affordable Mexican favorites, stop by Rancho Grande for classic dinner dishes like chicken fajitas, fish tacos, and guacamole. With margaritas for older guests and tons of tortilla chips for the kids, there’s something for everyone in your party.

DAY THREE

Families of all shapes and sizes will love breakfast at The Egg Bistro. This Virginia staple has been serving delicious eats for over a decade. Gather round the table for pineapple upside-down pancakes, country fried steak, or a carnitas breakfast burrito. Avocado toast and yogurt parfaits are also available for more health-conscious family members.

After breakfast, lace up your skates and head out on the rink at Greenbrier Family Skating Center, where live DJs will keep you and your little ones rolling around for hours. Before you go, stop by the pro shop to pick some up glow-in-the-dark souvenirs for the road.

In search of a sweet treat to make saying goodbye a little easier? Stop by Duck Donuts on your way out of town and purchase a few of their fall flavors like maple bacon, caramel apple pie, or pumpkin streusel.
