Bay Bridge Tunnel

Bay Bridge Tunnel

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is only 15 minutes from the Chesapeake, Virginia city line. IT is the main roadway from Delaware, Maryland and the Eastern Shore into Coastal Virginia.

Showcasing the mighty surge of the Atlantic Ocean and the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, the Bay Bridge Tunnel is a soaring marvel of human engineering.

Drive its 23-mile span north or south from Virginia’s Eastern Shore to the Virginia mainland, or use it as an alternate route between the Hampton Roads regions and the Carolinas. Since its opening in 1964, the Bay Bridge Tunnel has been crossed by over 100 million vehicles.

From above, the bridge appears to have a section missing. However, as you approach the tunnel by car, you’ll see this “missing” part is actually the tunnel itself that dips underwater to allow the countless ships to pass over easily.
