Chesapeake LOVEwork

overview

We love LOVE in Chesapeake! Our LOVEwork was created as part of a state and local partnership to promote travel and tourism in Virginia. This artwork is an extension of the Virginia is for Lovers brand, and one of more than 370 LOVEworks, in towns and cities across the Commonwealth. This sculpture is more than just an Insta worthy photo opportunity—it’s a symbol of what makes Chesapeake so special. Our LOVEwork design celebrates the natural surroundings and the wildlife that call Chesapeake home. The L is shaped like a blue heron, which is not only our official city symbol, but a familiar sight along Chesapeake’s many miles of shoreline. The O features a family of black bears, a nod to the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge—home to the largest population of black bears on the East Coast. You’ll see momma bear on the front, keeping a watchful eye, and if you peek around the back, you’ll find her two playful cubs. The V is made of kayaks, representing our city’s reputation as a paddling paradise. With countless waterways to explore, Chesapeake is truly a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The E brings a smile to our faces with playful river otters—just one of the many charming creatures that live in our rivers and streams. When visiting our LOVEwork, be sure to tag #PeakeLOVE for a chance to be featured on our social media channels!
