The Jordan Bridge reaches 169 feet high, which is taller than the Brooklyn Bridge and just slightly shorter than the Golden Gate Bridge. A roundtrip is about 3 miles and takes an hour to complete on foot and offers sweeping, panoramic views atop the Elizabeth River, stretching as far as the eye can see. Be sure to pack a picnic because under the bridge is beautiful Elizabeth River Park.

Experience a pivotal story in our nation’s beginning. Through engaging and detailed placards, walk the Historic Interpretive Trail at Battlefield Park and read about the Battle of Great Bridge. That fateful day on December 9, 1775, was the first Patriot victory of the Revolutionary War. In winning the battle of Great Bridge, the Patriots effectively denied to the British Norfolk, the finest seaport between New York and Charleston.

This 19-acre park offers everything for the perfect breath of fresh air. Surrounded by the canal on one side and the river on the other, Great Bridge Lock Park features a two-lane boat ramp, picnic shelters, a walking trail through the wooded western portion of the park, a large playground and extensive fishing and crabbing areas. Learn about the lock system with interpretive signage or just kick back and watch boats pass by on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, which runs from Maine to Key West, FL.
