Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon & Cub Run
Can't get enough of running? Neither can we. Chesapeake was made for endurance running with its flat topography and beautiful scenery. That's why thousands trek to Chesapeake each spring for the Dismal Swamp Stomp. This unique half marathon attracts runners from across the globe for a 13.1-mile romp along the scenic Dismal Swamp Canal Trail.
The closed, paved course is a fast and flat, out-and-back run. The winding course runs parallel to the historic Dismal Swamp Canal and borders the 112,000-acre Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary for more than 200 species of birds and an abundance of wildlife.
Need more motivation to lace up your running shoes? Cash prizes are awarded to the top five male and top five female athletes. Race organizers also recognize the top three male and female runners from age groups 12 to 75. This rain or shine event is sanctioned by the USA Track & Field, chip timed and limited to 2,500 registered runners. Post-race activities include local entertainment, snacks and beverages for participants.
Pint-sized sprinters (ages 12 and under) will not want to miss the Half-Mile Cub Run. Each fun run participant receives a race t-shirt and finisher's medal for conquering the course. If your "cub" needs to burn off extra energy, a dedicated activity area offers pre-race entertainment.
