"Un-Wine'd" Weekend
Chesapeake, VA

Download as a Word document (28.5KB)

There’s no better place to “un-wine’d” than in Chesapeake, Virginia. We'll explore the city and its vintage offerings and have an opportunity to make our own wine. We'll head just south of the border and sample some of the neighboring varietals produced on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Finally, some treasure hunting along Chesapeake's "Antique Alley" corks the weekend's agenda.

Day 1 - Chesapeake, VA

Arrive in Chesapeake just after lunch and head to Carafe Wine Makers. Based in Canada, this micro-winery is the only one of its kind in the United States and tempts our palates with a special wine tasting event. More than 30 wines are made at this location, including premium and specialty wines, fruit mist, and ice wines. While tasting, we'll also be able to browse the gift shop stocked with hard-to-find accessories and stemware in addition to all of their retail wines. If you're feeling bold, make your own brand of wine using their simple recipes. Following a six week fermentation period, your wine will have fermented and be ready to bottle and label with your own design. We'll complete the evening with dinner at Passion - The Restaurant where great food and fine wine are not just sustenance; they are food for the soul.

Day 2 - Chesapeake, VA to Outer Banks, NC

We'll start our day with breakfast at a local family-owned favorite - Angie's, famous for omelets and homemade biscuits. We'll head south to the popular Outer Banks of North Carolina for a complimentary tasting of the delectable wines of Sanctuary Vineyards. Before leaving, we'll browse the Cotton Gin, an original working gin that has been transformed into a country marketplace witha a southern flair. Collectibles, coastal and country home furnishings, housewares, lawn and garden ornaments, a complete line of natural beauty products, and seasonal decorations ensure we won't leave empty handed. Step aboard the Knotts Island ferry and enjoy a boxed lunch en route across the Currituck Sound. After docking, we'll raise our glasses again at Moonrise Bay Winery. A tour of the facility, complimentary tastings and wonderful desserts complete the outing. We'll return to Chesapeake and enjoy shopping and dining at TownePlace at Greenbrier, the city's new lifestyle destination center filled with specialty shops and restaurants.

Day 3 - Chesapeake, VA

For our last day, we head to Chesapeake's own "Antique Alley." Nestled together within a half-mile stretch of road, nearly a dozen shops are stocked with hidden treasures from yesteryear. Go in search of your grandmother's china, a hutch to store it, a prized brooch or collectible - you never know what we'll find! We'll enjoy a light lunch before departing.
