Join our park naturalist for an Owl Prowl at Northwest River Park. This 763-acre forested park is the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities. Three species of owl frequent the park and nest nearby; the Eastern Screech Owl, Barred Owl and the Great Horned Owl can be heard and observed in forest and swamps that encompass the park. Our evening begins with an interpretative program inside the park's Activity Building where you will learn about different species of owls, learn to recognize their different calls and learn about the adaptations that make them such successful nocturnal hunters. Afterwards we head outside to listen for owls and try to call some into us for a closer look. During the owl prowl we will hike through the park, up to two and a half miles is possible, in search of these predators.
